The incredibly talented Karla Reyes of Swizzle Mobile Bar, Go Gourmet by The Plaza, and The Plaza Catering, has a new baby… and it’s really cheesy! Literally. This multi-talented biz wiz put up a premium cheese buffet in Metro Manila and everyone’s going gaga over the creamy, strong, stinky varieties of cheese on offer. She hosted an intimate gathering the launch of La Petite Fromagerie, and so naturally, everyone came out in droves to support the advent of unlimited French cheese in Manila.
After trying out all of Crisp on 28th’s new Filipino fusion dishes, I can’t pick a favorite. They were all incredibly well thought out and expertly executed, with Chef Siggy Santiago-Torrente taking inspiration from the owner’s go-to Filipino dishes, like co-owner Solenn Heussaff’s fondness for kansi.
I think I’ve fallen in love with Paradise Dynasty. I really have. The interiors are gorgeous you’d think you were in a hotel, but the prices are that of any decent Chinese place that serves lemon chicken, Macau crispy pork, and Yang Chow fried rice. If you haven’t yet, here are 8 reasons to take your family there, and maybe change your mind.
After everyone had finished eating and settled down, Lee came up to the stage and started playing. How have I never heard of this woman before? What rock was I living under?! Her voice is amaaaazing! And all her original songs are about (or written under) full moons, which if you believe in angels and muses, is pretty special. Her rendition of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah is probably one of my favorites.
I had always wanted to go and pay Hillside Cafe & Juice Bar a visit, if only to support two female creativepreneurs I highly respected, but life had been keeping me in the south for most of this year, working on a few new projects, and picking up a few clients in the process, so just the thought of crawling through at least two hours of traffic for a smoothie just wasn’t worth it. Until I discovered that the cafe was INSIDE a garden center.
Mama Lou’s had recently come out with a few new dishes for families and friends to bond over (just in time for Christmas, too!), but I still can’t help but revert back to old favorites. Here are a few of the reasons why I keep on coming back to Mama Lou’s.
Fellow millennials, we need to know what happened during those 20 years martial law was in effect. In a world where people share their stories with a click of a button, you just need to search #MarcosIsNOTaHero to understand where the fuel of this fire is coming from. Empathize with just how atrocious this act is for everyone who risked their lives, underwent torture, and died for our civil rights, and for the families who were directly affected by this. It is NOT ok to not care. This country will soon be passed to us, after all.
