After trying out all of Crisp on 28th’s new Filipino fusion dishes, I can’t pick a favorite. They were all incredibly well thought out and expertly executed, with Chef Siggy Santiago-Torrente taking inspiration from the owner’s go-to Filipino dishes, like co-owner Solenn Heussaff’s fondness for kansi.
I had always wanted to go and pay Hillside Cafe & Juice Bar a visit, if only to support two female creativepreneurs I highly respected, but life had been keeping me in the south for most of this year, working on a few new projects, and picking up a few clients in the process, so just the thought of crawling through at least two hours of traffic for a smoothie just wasn’t worth it. Until I discovered that the cafe was INSIDE a garden center.
With #Laboracay and the opening of The Palace Pool Club only a few weeks away, partygoers have been dieting and working out as if their lives depended on it. Nobody wants to be caught with a pooch on Instagram at two of the hottest summer parties of the year, and methinks everyone is sick and tires of having to eat their way through sweet potatoes and tuna just to be able to achieve that enviable summer bod.
Enter, Sprout. Offering a fresh, natural, and healthy food alternatives to the greasy, overly processed alternatives, this fresh convenience store gives fast food a whole new meaning, with meals and sarnies served grab-and-go style for people in a rush – which is probably why their first branch is in Makati.

This is the time of year that coffee shops and cafés come up with their own cheery holiday drinks, and one that’s not to be outdone is Kat’s Café. They had been busy relocating from BF Resort to the new Robinsons Place Las Piñas, for the past two months, and now that they’ve finally settled into their new home, owner Chef Katrece Gamo and Head Barista, Joseph Du, finaly had the time to putter around the kitchen, putting together their own delicious spin on comforting Christmas classic concoctions, as well as adding a few new items to the menu.
I am quite proud that the Philippines has a very rich coffee culture. Ever since the Spaniards came to the islands and brought their coffee plants to the highlands, we have had our own blends from the popular kapeng barako to the lighter and tarter Hineleban blend from Bukidnon. Yes, we love our coffees strong and sweet, and our love for the strong, dark drink is evident with all the third wave coffee shops that are popping up all over Metro Manila.
Enter Toby’s Estate, one of the newest, hippest coffee shops in Makati that’s sure to give its competition a good run for its money. I had been hearing wonderful things about this place for months and was honored to have been given an invitation to its grand opening, especially giddy to meet the owner and mastermind behind the brand, Toby Smith.
The guys behind the Magnum brand are flexing their social media muscles once again, and invited a few bloggers, friends, family, and press people to check out what they have lined up for everyone once the store officially opens next week. One can only imagine the chaos that’ll ensue once Magnum Manila opens its doors on April 8, selling custom-made Magnum bars and special Magnum creations!
