As much as I love my washable pumpkin-hued Urbanears Humlans, I still find them a bit too bulky to lug around in my everyday bag. The guys at Digital Walker and Beyond the Box must’ve heard my plea, as they sent over Humlan’s baby brother for me to unbox and test drive – the Urbanears Kransen (Php 1,950). Not only are they sleek, chic, and virtually tangle-free, they also boast of incredible sound for their tiny size.
I can appreciate the minimalist design of the Kransen box. The same color as the headset inside, I chose the rich, deep Indigo that stood out against my colorful array of headsets I have. It’s perfect for when I just want to chill out to music on the daily grind from where I live in suburbia to Bonifacio Global City and back or for when I walk my dog or take a quick jog around the neighborhood.
Urbanears Kransen Specifications: 10 mm Dynamic drivers | Frequency Response 20Hz-20kHz | Impedance 16Ω | Sensitivity 100mV@1kHz = 100dB SPL
Kransen Indigo is a premium in-ear model engineered with a hefty dose of Urbanears DNA. I love the weird yet ergonomically design that helps the buds stay anchored in my ears even when you move around and how they’re built to deliver precise and powerful bass tones. Once I put these buds in and turn up my tunes, the noise of the rest of the world is nothing more but a low din and all I can hear is my girl, Beyoncé. Kransen comes with three sleeves to choose from for even more comfort – made for small, medium, and large earlobes – so everyone from a child to your dad can appreciate Kransen’s smooth, smooth sound.
I think Urbanears Kransen was definitely built for hipsters, as it is intelligently put together, with cute yet functional surprises like SnapConstruction. Inspired by the building blocks we played with as children, the SnapConstruction feature lets you connect your ear buds around your neck. That way, you can easily find them and continue enjoying your music whenever you’re ready instead of having it dangling loosely for the dog to mistake for a new chew toy. It’s happened to me more than once, you should see my old earbuds.
The headset also come with a microphone and remote for hands-free talking. Most music devices today are also cell phones, so Urbanears takes that into account and the headphones come with a built-in microphone and remote. Use it to pick up calls or fast forward or rewind your music.
Another nifty design is the patent-pending Cable Loop. This allows you to wrap your cord and secure it into place. You’ll never have to spend another minute untangling your headphones after they’ve been in your bag ever again. Nice, huh?
I’ve been using my Kransens for a little over a week now and so far I have no complaints. As far as lightweight in-ear headsets are concerned, this is worth every penny and blows its generic-looking in-ear Apple counterparts out of the water with it’s sound quality and badass intelligent design. The biggest problem you will probably encounter will be picking out your favorite color.
