I usually work from home most days, but that can get pretty boring. I like to mix it up by heading over to my favorite coffee shops or cafés, and I always bring my trusty headset or earbuds along drown out all the chatter or the bad taste in music, allowing me to get on with whatever  it is I’m working on in peace. Alas, as far as most overused gadgets are concerned, they wear out with use. Most of my headsets barely last me half the year before they start to look dirty and worn out from wear and tear – way too dirty for it to be taken out in public. But to my delight, one the Urbanears Humlan (Php 2,250) headset solves my shame of bringing out a dirty pair of headphones with its washable parts! No more ghetto-looking, grimy headsets for this lady!

Urbanears Humlan Specifications40 mm Dynamic Drivers | Frequency Response 20 Hz – 20 kHz | Impedance 32Ω | Sensitivity 100 dB | Max Input Power 100mV@1kHz

Humlan is a brand new concept from Urbanears whose headband and ear cushions can be removed and thrown in with the wash, much like your favorite shirt, and comes with a little net baggie to make sure you can find all the pieces afterwards. The listening experience is guaranteed to be fresh and clean even if the music you’re listening to is not. I appreciate Humlan’s slim on-ear fit that makes it look good on both men and women, as well as making it super easy to wear, it’s angled speakers delivering a clear and precise sound.

I initially thought the headset would be flimsy since it looked pretty lightweight. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it wasn’t ‘flimsy’ – the right word being aerodynamic. The headband was light and flat, which made it lighter on the head, and it also made the earmuffs rest a bit more comfortably. I’d usually have to take my headset off every now and then because I felt like the things were pinching my ears when worn for too long, a problem I never experienced with these babies.

Because Humlan belongs to the Urbanears family, it also comes with some handy features like the ZoundPlug for instant music sharing and a microphone and remote for picking up calls and hands-free talking. Urbanears products are specifically designed for use with Apple devices, and come with an apple certified microphone and remote. I can plug this into my laptop and watch a movie or catch up with my online courses, or I can plug it into my phone and talk to friends or clients while using both my hands to jot down notes or whatever.

Aside from the colorful, modern look, I have to say the bass on this thing is pretty banging as well. This has the sound quality of a Sennheiser with the bass of Beats, which makes for listening to anything with a mad beat pure awesome.

Overall, I have been using the Humlan for a few months now and the quality of the headphones is pretty much the same as when I first got it . Other than the tearaway headset and earmuffs, you can also clean the actual headset and the nylon that protects the wire with a damp cloth or baby wipes – et voilà, they’ll look as good as new!
